This ancient hill is known for its ungrafted vineyards that have survived the ages. According to one account dating back to 1880, Serradenari had “five days’ worth of Barolo and Barbera.” But the history of the place goes back much farther in time, to the Middle Ages, when maps of the area showed that the hill was covered with vineyards. The Barbera d’Alba produced at Serradenari, an expression of the history of Piedmont wines, combines the typical power of this wine with great elegance and delicacy. Its distinctive deep red color and aroma, which is reminiscent of the forest, are even more marked in Barbera d’Alba Superiore. Aged for a year in truncated conical vats, this is a truly excellent wine that is elegant and well-balanced.
