RENOIR
3,000 bottles of Pinot Noir
challenge Cavour
Roberto
Cipresso has selected our farthest land – a north-facing, cool vineyard
extending over 2.7 acres – to try his hand with great patience and
expertise, and with the help of the latest techniques of the new millennium,
at producing a Pinot Noir on a par with great Burgundy wines: an experiment
that the great French winemaker Louis Oudart and Count Camillo Benso di
Cavour tried, albeit in vain, in the 19th century.
The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 1,640 feet and faces the Alps. It
has a planting density of 6.5 feet by 1.9 feet and comprises 6,500 vines
from five different clones. It will take the grapes from two vines to
produce one bottle of wine for a total of 3,000 bottles.
We don't know if this noble but whimsical vine will yield a product able to
compete with Burgundy wines. All we know is that we're going to try it. We
believe that a great terroir and expert hands can make this dream come true.
